Novano Player Privacy Policy

Last updated: 4 October 2026

Novano Player ("the app") is a video and music player for Android, published by the developer named in the Google Play listing. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your data.

Summary

Data the app stores on your device

DataWhyWhere it stays
Playback position and historyTo resume where you left off and show "Continue watching"Local database on your device
Playlists, favourites and saved momentsSo your library is organised the way you left itLocal database on your device
Saved network stream addresses and optional credentialsSo you don't have to retype themLocal database on your device. Credentials are only ever sent to the server you added them for, when you press Play. They are excluded from device backups.
App settings (theme, gestures, player controls, subtitle style…)To remember your preferencesLocal preferences file
Screenshots you take of a videoYou asked for themSaved to your gallery in Pictures/Novano
Crash logTo help fix a crash if one happensA file inside the app's private storage. It never leaves the device unless you open Settings → Crash report and choose to share it yourself.

You can clear playback history at any time from Settings → Privacy → Clear playback history and delete saved streams from the Network tab. Uninstalling the app removes everything above except the screenshots you saved to your gallery.

Permissions and why they are requested

PermissionPurpose
Read videos and audio (READ_MEDIA_VIDEO, READ_MEDIA_AUDIO, or READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE on Android 12 and below)Build your local video and music library. Requested only after an in-app explanation, and you can skip it.
Internet and network statePlay the streams and network shares you add.
Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS)Show playback controls while media plays in the background.
Foreground service (media playback) and wake lockKeep playback running when you leave the app or lock the screen.
Biometric (USE_BIOMETRIC)Optional app lock. The check is done by Android; the app never sees or stores your fingerprint or face data.

The app never requests location, contacts, camera, microphone or "All files access". The music visualizer reads the sound the app itself is playing; it does not use the microphone.

Network connections

The app connects only to the servers whose addresses you enter (HTTP/HTTPS, HLS, DASH, RTSP, SMB, FTP, WebDAV). Plain HTTP is allowed because many home servers and IP cameras do not offer encryption; the app sends nothing over these connections apart from the requests needed to fetch the media you asked for.

Children

The app is not directed at children and contains no content of its own; it only plays files and streams you supply.

Changes

Updates to this policy will be published at the same address, with a new "Last updated" date.
